Canal Communities Partnership

The Canal Communities Partnership was set up in 1997 under the Irish government's Local Development Social Inclusion Programme. The focus of this programme is on areas that are characterised by high unemployment and other social problems. Since set up they have worked to improve the quality of life of people living in the Partnership Area which covers Bluebell, Inchicore, Kilmainham, Rialto and Islandbridge. To achieve the goals set down by the Social Inclusion Programme, they aim to create a "partnership approach" between the community, business, trade union organisations, and state bodies. They also provide supports to individuals, to community groups and organisations to stimulate growth and development in the areas of Childcare, Adult Education, Enterprise, Employment, Education and Community Development.
